Description
The Gokyo Lake Trek is much scenic, slightly easier and less crowded alternative route to Everest Base Camp trek. It includes dramatic views of the northwest face of Mt. Everest set amongst other giants.
After a 35min short Mountain flight to Lukla, follow the Everest Base Camp trail for two days to Namche Bazaar, a rest and acclimatization day. Walk to the friendly Sherpa village of Khumjung to explore their lifestyle, culture and beliefs.
The Gokyo trekking trail, then branches North West into the Dudh Koshi Valley and the snout of the Ngozumpa glacier. Ascend the serene valley alongside the glacial moraine, pass two lakes to Gokyo Lake, a summer grazing village on the slopes of the moraine. A stiff rewarding climb up Gokyo Ri (5,360m/17585ft) offers soaring views of Cho Oyo, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu beyond the glacier below. The return journey requires three days: staying at different Sherpa villages.
