The adventure kicks off with a thrilling, scenic flight to the high-altitude airstrip at Lukla, serving as your dramatic gateway into the breathtaking landscapes of Sagarmatha National Park. As you hike alongside the turquoise waters of the glacial Dudh Koshi River, you will cross iconic, prayer-flag-draped suspension bridges and trek through fragrant pine and seasonal rhododendron forests.

The trail opens up at Namche Bazaar, the vibrant, horseshoe-shaped Sherpa capital, offering a rich immersion into mountain heritage, local bakeries, and Tibetan markets. The absolute crown jewel of the journey is ascending to the ridge of where you can sit on the terrace and absorb a pristine, front-row panorama of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the striking spire of Ama Dablam—all without the extreme physical strain or altitude risks of traveling all the way to Base Camp.

Everest View Trekking – 7days treckking Overview

The Everest View Trek (often called the Everest Panorama Trek) is one of the best ways to experience the magic of the Khumbu region without committing to the grueling, multi-week journey all the way to Everest Base Camp.

It is a short, moderate trek designed for travelers who want to stand face-to-face with the world’s highest peaks, immerse themselves in rich Sherpa culture, and avoid the high risks of acute mountain sickness (AMS) by staying below 3,900 meters.

Day to Day Itinerary
Expand all

After breakfast, transfer to the Domestic Airport for the Trans Himalayan flight and dramatic landing on the hillside at Lukla: gateway to the Khumbu/Everest region. Meet your local porters and walk downhill to the Sherpa settlement of Cheplung. The trail then follows the side of the Dudh Koshi Valley before ascending to Ghat (2,530m/8,350ft). Another gentle hour leads up to Phakding.

The trail meanders through pine forest, along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges via the Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo and Jorsale: entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park and permit checkpoint; with tranquil views of glistening Thamserku (6,618m/21,714m). The trail continues along the riverbed to the confluence of the Bhote and Dudh Koshi Rivers. It then climbs steadily, crossing the high Tenzing- Hilary suspension bridge: with inspiring glimpses of Everest and the Nuptse – Lhotse ridge. A final three hour ascent through pine forest leads to the prosperous trading and administrative town of Namche Bazaar.

The trail climbs up from the town and then contours around the hillside, offering superb views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and closer views of Thamserku. It then undulates to Kyangjuma and on to Sanasa where the trail forks; left for the Gokyo Lakes and right for Everest Base Camp. Look out for spotted deer, musk deer, Himalayan Tahrs and birds – including the colourful (male) Danphe pheasant (Nepal’s national bird).
We fork left and ascend along the lower slopes of Khumbila continuing up the Dudh Koshi Valley. Khumbila is sacred to Sherpas as the abode of the patron-god of the Khumbu region. The path rises steeply to the tiny village of Mong La (3,975m/13,042ft): built around an ancient chorten. It then drops to the river at Phortse Thenga, through pine and rhododendron forest, crosses and rises up, past walled fields of crops, to Phortse, below the snow peaks of Taboche and Cholatse.

Follow breakfast with a hard but short climb and then trek steadily along a ridge. Drop into the Imja Khola Valley, cross the Imja Khola and ascend through dwarf conifers and rhododendron forest to the hilltop village of Tengboche: on the Everest Base Camp trail. Their famous Gompa is set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest, Kangtega and other peaks. At full moon in October/November they hold the colourful Mani Rimdu festival which includes masked dancing and Tibetan Opera in the monastery courtyard. Visit the monastery during the afternoon.

The day begins with a long meandering descent through hillsides blanketed with rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the flag festooned bridge over the Dudh Koshi at Phunki Thenga (3,250m/10,663ft), the lowest trail-point north of Namche Bazaar, the path rises to reach Sanasa where we turned off for Phortse. Return on the broader trail, eventually passing a Chorten, the army camp and on to Namche Bazaar.

From Namche, the trail descends to more comfortable altitudes, passing through the friendly farming villages of Jorsale (where we exit the National Park), Monjo, Phakding, then crosses the suspension bridge at Thado Koshi before rising to Ghat and Cheplung. Round off the adventure with the final 700m, 35min ascent to Lukla: and say goodbye to your porters.

After an early breakfast, take the return flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel.

Important to note:

Please read the Checklist section of this trip notes for additional details of what you need to bring for the trek on this trip. You will need to bring a comfortable medium sized day pack to carry the things that you will need during the day. This should have a waist strap or (better) a padded waist belt. The weather is subject to change in high altitude so layered clothing is recommended throughout the year.

FAQs
  • You will stay in local, family-run trekking lodges known as teahouses. They provide cozy, twin-sharing rooms with basic wooden beds, blankets, and mattresses. The communal dining areas are centrally heated by a wood or yak-dung stove and serve as the perfect spot to warm up, eat, and chat with fellow travelers in the evening.

  • Teahouses offer surprisingly extensive menus. You will find local staples like Dal Bhat (lentil soup, rice, and vegetable curry—highly recommended for sustained energy), alongside international options like pasta, garlic soup, pancakes, and eggs. To avoid foodborne illnesses that could ruin your short trek, it is best to stick to vegetarian dishes and avoid meat above Lukla, as all meat must be carried up the mountains by porters or yaks without refrigeration.

  • Tap water in the mountains is not safe to drink raw. You should bring a reusable water bottle or bladder and treat water using purification tablets, drops, or a reliable UV filter (like a SteriPEN). Alternatively, you can buy boiled water from teahouses. Electricity is available at almost every stop, though lodges charge a small fee ($2 to $5 USD) to charge your devices or power banks via solar or local hydro-power.

  • There are a couple of ATMs in Namche Bazaar, but they are notorious for running out of cash or losing power. It is highly recommended to exchange and withdraw all the Nepali Rupees (NPR) you will need for your personal expenses (hot showers, Wi-Fi, charging, drinks, and tips) while you are still in Kathmandu.
