Description

History : The Land of Passes, Ladakh (La=passes, Dakh= Land), was once the independent Kingdom, was ruled by dynasties descending from the King of Tibet. This region was a best trade route between Panjab and central asia and it became under the ruler of Jammu in 19 th Century. During the British regime in India, it went under British colony then to republic of India. 

Natural : Not only the land of passes, Ladakh is also the land of Lakes and springs. The major area of the region is mountainous desert landscape and it is rain shadow from the Indian Ocean monsoon. Though few rain receives during the summer, the source of water of the region is winter snowfall. Due to the high alleviation, the agriculture season is short from April to September depending upon the climate. 

Geography: Ladakh, also knows as Little Tibet, is bounded by the by two world’s greatest mountain range Karakoram and Himalaya. A total of 97000 sq Km land, is located in the north-western area of India and it belongs to Jammu and Kasmir state. The altitude of the Ladakh is varies from 2750m to 7672 m at Saser Kangri.

People: The approx population of 240000 is mainly Dardic, Mongoloid Tibetan and Indo-Aryan. Ladakhi, Balti, Dardic, Urdu and Hindi are the principal language spoken in the area. Buddhism is the predominant religion where as Muslim also has some presence.

Entry procedure: Indian Visa is required to enter Ladakh, and it can be obtained from the any Indian Embassy and consulate office around the world. A two copies passport sized photograph is required to proceed the application form and visa is normally valid for 6 months.

Access: Indian airline operates regular scheduled flight to Leh from Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu and Srinagar. Jet Airway also has scheduled flight between Delhi and Leh. The main overland approach to Ladakh from Srinagar and is 434 Km far from Leh, similarly, Manali to Leh is another possibility to reach Ladakh and two cities has 473 Km distance.

Outline Itinerary

1 Day 01: Arrival in Delhi. Early morning flight to Leh.

4 Day 05: We take a morning stroll to Sankar Gompa, then to the nearby village of Sabu. Overnight in Sabu.

5 Day 06: In Sabu, we meet our horses and begin the.....

In Sabu, we meet our horses and begin the trek. Our first day takes us through lovely grazing areas to the campsite at Polu Digar. From this vantage point, the Stok mountains appear to float majestically above the Indus valley.

6 Day 07: Continue upward to the Digar La base camp. A short day to aid acclimatization.

7 Day 08: We make an early start to cross the 17,230 ft.....

  We make an early start to cross the 17,230 ft. Digar La. From the top, views stretch south to the Zanskar range and north to the Saser range, Ladakh's highest peaks. The descent is steady and we camp by a lovely meandering stream at Chumik Yogma.

8 Day 09: Continue down through the village of Digar to the tiny settlement of Aghyam.

Our second pass! Ascend the 17,061 foot Wuri La for views all the way to the Karakoram in Pakistan! Descend to camp at Zule Tokpo.

12 Day 13: Finish the trek with a short walk out to the ...

Finish the trek with a short walk out to the village of Sabu, and the TakTok gompa, an ancient shrine built within an impressive cave. Travel by jeep over 18,000 foot plus Chang La to the village of Tangtse, where we camp amongst idyllic meadows.
 

13 Day 14: We explore the shoreline of the brilliant turquoise and azure...

Pangong Lake, Ladakh's largest and one of the great salt lakes of Central Asia. Proximity to the Chinese border prevents us from penetrating much beyond the western shore or camping at the lakeside, but the views are stupendous. Our return to Leh takes us back over Chang La, the second highest motorable road on earth. Back in the Indus valley, we visit the little-known gompa of Chemrey before returning to Leh that evening.

14 Day 15: Morning flight to Delhi, on arrival check in Hotel. Stay overnight at Hotel.
