Trip Overview of Tibet Overland Tour

 

The 8 days Tibet overland tour starts with drive through wonderful scenery dominated by green meadows, river gorges, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and enchanting flora & fauna of the valleys of  Kerung  Lhatse and Xegar. We will have breathtaking panorama view of incredible Himalayan ranges including Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Mt. Xishapagma (8012m) and Mt. Everest. You will encounter various magnificent destination and major attractions of the Tibet’s most prosperous towns. A visit to culturally attractive city of Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse is remarkable feature of this overland tour in Tibet. There you will be visiting beautiful monasteries and other historical places as Tashilunpo and the Kumbum, rich in sculptures and murals. We have two days sightseeing in Lhasa (3600m), the spiritual and secular center of Tibet. In Tibet Lhasa overland tour, we explore ancient heritage sites important monasteries and old traditional quarter of the city. Some of these include the Potala palace, Jokhang temple, traditional Bharkhor market and Drepung and Sera monasteries. The journey flight back to Kathmandu provides you the magnificent views of Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks.

Despite untold ravages brought about during the Cultural Revolution, Tibet’s past grandeur, majesty, magic & mystery still remains undiminished. One can still see today nomads herding their yaks, pilgrims worshipping at sacred shrines & the expansive, striking & enduring Himalayan topography during the overland tour of Tibet. Outline Itinerary

1 Day 01: - Kathmandu (1300) -Kerung Border (145 Km) 06-07 hours drive

 

Early in the morning scenic drive to Kerung Border (Nepal-Tibet Border) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside and after necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, an hour adventurous uphill drive by Bus & jeep(normally) or 2 hour walk uphill (in case of landslide to Chinese immigration, check-in to hotel or Continue drive to Kerung. Stay overnight at Guest House.

2 Day 02: - Kerung - Tingri (4300m) / Lhatse (4,350m): 225 Km/244 Km

 

Today our journey will be uphill to the highest plateau of the world with the typical view of Tibetan landscape offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world. from where, weather permitting, breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt Cho Oyu (8201 M) & Mt Xishapagma (8012M) but dwarfed by the Vastness of the Tibetan plateau. From TINGRI, one can enjoy the magnificence of Mt. Everest (8,848 M). Stay overnight at Guest House

3 Day 03: - Tingri/Lhaste - Xigatse (3,900 M): 244 Km

 

Today we will continue scenic drive crossing Over Gyatchu La (5,220M), the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse from where a road to Mt Kailash bifurcates to the west. Stay overnight at hotel.

4 Day 04: - Shigatse to Gyantse (3950m

)

At morning after having the breakfast we will have a little sightseeing tour. We will also visit Panchen Lama’s Tashlhumpu Monastery. Then from here we will drive to the valley of Gyantse of about 90km distance passing the beautiful valleys and colorful Tibetan villages. We will visit Gyantse Dzong and Gyantse Kumbum. Gyantse Dzong fort dates back to the fourteenth century and offers some of the most amazing views of Gyantse and the surrounding Nyang Chu Valley. Gyantse Kumbum has a large gold-domed Stupa and houses, several chapels and Tibetan Buddhist murals.

5 Day 05: - Gyantse to Lhasa (3650m)

The drive to Lhasa takes 7 hours, crossing 2 passes The Karo La (5010m) and Kamba La (4794m) pass. On the way we will see the incredible Lake Yamdrok Tso (Turquoise Lake) and the Brahmaputra River as well as the ever-present views of the interesting and unusual landscape. From the Kamba La we descend to the main road which brings us all the way to Lhasa. We will have a distant view of Potala Palace on the way. Spend your night in hotel.

6 Day 06: - Lhasa Sightseeing Tour

 

We will visit Lhasa’s many monasteries and sites, such as the Sera Monastery, and the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. At Sera Monastery, you will get an insight into the important aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. You pay a visit to Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Completed in 1956, the handsome building is ornately decorated with Tibetan carvings and paintings. See the wonderful collection of ancient murals and statues as well as scriptures written in gold powder, wonderful scroll paintings, tapestries and Thangka. Visit the Jokhang Temple, a spiritual center of Tibetan people built during songtsen Gompo’s reign by princess Wencheng of tang dynasty, 647 A.D. The inner circuit is also situated inside the temple and is lined with prayer-wheel and murals outlined in gold on red background, which depict the thousand Buddha, interspersed with Stupas and relief-images. The temple is surrounded by the Barkhor market, where you will stroll through the busy lanes that seem to have resisted all invasions of the modern world and return back to hotel for overnight.

7 Day 07: - Another Lhasa Sightseeing Tour day

 

Today you will visit the spectacular Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery. It is the most striking landmark in Lhasa and an architectural wonder. Potala palace is one of the most beautiful monuments in Tibet with a vast array of intricate Tibetan murals and beautiful statues. Elegantly decorated with hundreds of Thangka paintings, frescos and images created hundreds of years ago the Potala palace is a perfect example of how ancient monuments should be preserved. We also visit Drepung Monastery, which was founded in the 14th century and was once the largest in the world, with a population of around 10,000 monks. Tibetans’ respect and belief are immensely knotted with this monastery; evening free for Shopping. After the day’s tour is over, you are escorted back to your hotel for a well- earned rest.

8 Day 08: - Final Departure from Lhasa

Early morning transfer to the airport for the hour-long flight to Kathmandu that takes us right across the main Himalayan range and provides us with magnificent mountain views. The flight provides you the magnificent views of Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8536m) and other Himalayan peaks. Or from here you may join to your forward destination.
