Trekking Sikkim and Darjeeling Sandakphu area is one of the most highlighted treks in the western Himalaya who have keen interest to do Singalila ridge trek within short time where the Indian and Nepal Himalaya meet. In this trek you will fine not only walking experience but some of the best flora fauna on the way the park has a number of  small mammals like red panda, leopard cat, barking deer etc. The park is the birder’s delight with over 120 spices recorded. You come face to face with the full snow peaks of all the eastern Himalayas mountain range including Mount Everest world’s highest peak at 8848mts, Makalu and the Kanchenjunga.

Outline Itinerary

1 1. Arrival-Drive to Darjeeling. (2042m/70kms/3-4hrs)

Upon arrival at Bagdogra airport, meet our representative and transfer to Darjeeling.

2 2. Day at Leisure in Darjeeling.

Today, full day in Darjeeling encloses a mixture of cultural attraction visit and short hikes. Early in the morning drive towards Tiger Hill to see Sunrise on Kanchenjunga peak. A short walk to visit Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park house to some exotic animals such as shy Red Panda, Snow Leopard and Royal Bengal Tiger and some other Himalayan animals. Afterwards, drive to Ghoom to visit oldest monastery in Darjeeling built in 1875. Later in the afternoon take a joy ride on the UNESCO World Heritage toy train until Ghoom which makes en-route stop at the Batasia Loop. Evening free to stroll or browse for shopping through the town. Overnight in Darjeeling.

3 3 Drive to Maneybhanjang (43km/1-2hrs) &Trek to Tumling. (2970m/13kms/4-5hrs)

After breakfast drive to Maneybhanjang, the starting point of the trek. It takes around one and half hour to reach Maneybhanjang from Darjeeling. Now start trekking towards Tumling, It’s a small Sherpa village with handful of houses, more often inundate in fog, admiting an impression of above the cloud village. Overnight in Trekkers lodge

 

4 4 Trek to Sandakphu via Kalipokhari. (3636m/19kms/7-8hrs)

Wake up early in the morning to observe the fabulous view of the sunrise over the mountain ranges. After breakfast trek through the Singalila National Park to Sandakphu via Kalipokhari. Sandakphu is the place from where one can witness the clear views of the peaks of Lhotse (8501m), Everest (8848m) and Makalu (8475m) of the Himalayas along with the stunning views of the huge Kanchenjunga massif (8586m). Overnight in trekkers lodge at Sandakphu.

 

5 5 Trek from Sandakphu to Phalut (3595m/21kms/7-8hrs)

On fifth day the trek passes through a ridge and generates a best experience. Not that much steep Climbing. The snowy peaks of the Himalayas never go out of the sight along with the high altitude vegetation, dwarf Rhododendron and firs. Overnight stay at Phalut trekkers hut.

 

6 6 Trek from Phalut to Rammam (2381m/24kms/8-9hrs)

After breakfast we continue our journey towards Rammam our next destination. The trek is a steep descent and it goes through the Singalila National Park with dense pine, rhododendron forests and thick bamboo bushes where you have the chances of sighting the rare Red Panda among the bamboo groves. Overnight at Rammam.

 

7 7 Trek from Rammam to Rimbik (2292m/19kms/7-8hrs)

Today the trek portion is relatively easy, the first part of the trek is almost level and then descends to the bridge at Sirikhola and passes through a number of small villages to reach Rimbik. Overnight at stay Rimbik.

8 8 Drive back to Bagdogra Airport and fly to home (125Kms/5.30hrs)

Darjeeling internationally acclaimed as one of the best hill resorts is also a unquestionable paradise for trekkers and adventure seekers. Trekking in Darjeeling is an experience which no lover of nature should miss. It brings one face to face with the magnificient glory of the Himalayas.

Sandakphu  trek is located at an altitude of 3636 m along the Singalila Ridge is a moderate one and quite popular among tourists to witness the most visually stimulating view of the majestic Mt. Kanchenjunga and a host of other stunning peak. The grandeur of snow capped mountains, battalions of colorful wildflowers like primulas, rhododendron, magnolias, orchids and many other sub-alpine flowers, the melodic chirp of birds filling the air and the fresh green smell, soaking in all of this would definitely elate all your senses during the trek.

Of course, you will have to make an effort and trek uphill to experience this ‘top of the world’ feeling but we assure you it is definitely worthwhile. If you plan your travel to Darjeeling, make sure you don’t miss out on Sandakphu trekking for lifetime experience.  Sandakphu is the highest point of West Bengal at 3636m in the district of Darjeeling. This trek follows the famous Singalila Ridge, a prominent stimulus of high ground that lies at the southern end of a long crest, which runs down from the Kanchenjunga massif and forms the border between Sikkim & Nepal. One of the unavoidable necessities of trekking in Himalayas is that the best views are had from high up but the trek along this ridge, passing through small settlements, is perhaps the one of the most scenically rewarding in the Himalaya. In spring the slopes are carpeted with red and pink Rhododendrons. The Singalila National park area has rare species like Red Panda and is a birder’s paradise. .
