Outline Itinerary

1 Day 01: - Arrive Paro and drive to Thimpu

Transfer from hotel to airport in time to connect Druk Air flight to Paro .During the flight, one will experience breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks, including the sacred Mount Chomolhari and Jitchu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival you will be received by your guide and driven to the capital, Thimphu .Overnight at the hotel in Thimpu.

 

2 Day 02: - Sightseeing tour of Thimpu

After noon Visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of the third King who reigned from 1952 – 1972. Visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved. Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still preserved. Artists are taught to paint Thankas here (sacred Buddhist scroll). Visit the Handicrafts Emporium where one can buy Bhutanese textiles and other arts and crafts. If time permits, visit Tashicho Dzong, the center of government and the monastic order. Overnight at Hotel in Thimphu.

3 Day 03: - Thimphu - Trongsa (200 Km, 6 Hours)

The journey to central Bhutan takes about 7-8 hours passing through alpine and coniferous forests across three districts. While the drive can be arduous, there are, however, splendid views of mountain ranges, village hamlets and two high passes. Pack lunch will be served at Chendebji, an ancient Newari Stupa like those found in Nepal. Arrive Trongsa and check into the lodge.

4 Day 04: - Trongsa - Bumthang sightseeing (68 Km, 2 1/2 Hours)

After breakfast, visit Trongsa Dzong, one of the most impressive in the kingdom. Built in 17th century by Shabdrung, this is a masterpiece of architecture with several courtyards and corridors and 23 temples. Drive to Bumthang through the most scenic landscape of lush pine forests, open fields and quaint hamlets. On arrival in Bumthang, check into the lodge. After lunch, visit Kurje Lhakhang where the saint Padmasambhava subdued a local demon and left his body imprint on a rock; the Jambey Lhakhang (7th century temple), Tamshing Monastery (one of the oldest), the Jakar Dzong (administrative centre of the region) and Swiss Farm House. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang.

5 Day 05: - Trongsa - Bumthang

After our breakfast, we will visit the magnificent Trongsa Dzong and then drive to Bumthang through the hairpin bends with the dense forest of rhododendron, conifers, alder and oak. The road then comes out into a wide open cultivated valley – which is the Chumey Valley, the first of Bumthnag’s four valleys. From here the road goes on straight until we see Jakar Dzong and then drops into bends before straightening out again in the main valley at Chamkhar. The drive will take about 2hours and 30minutes. Lunch will be served at Hotel Bumthang. After lunch we will visit Jakar Dzong and the Chamkhar town. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Bumthang.

 

6 Day 06: - Excursion Bumthang.

Today’s day begins with visit to Jambay Lhakhang, which is one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in 7th century, Kurjey Lhakhang, is named after the body print of Guru Rinpoche which is preserved in a cave inside the oldest of the three buildings, Tamshing Lhakhang – which was established by Terton Pema Lingpa in 1501 and is the most important Nyingma Goenba in the country. After lunch we will visit Mebertsho (Burning Lake) – This is a very scared lake for Bhutanese people. Terton Pema Lingpa discovered several of Guru Rinpoche’s hidden religious treasures from this lake. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Bumthang

 

7 Day 07: - Bumthang - Gangtey

After the breakfast, we will drive to Gangtay, Phobjikha. The drive will take about 4hours. Lunch will be at Phobjikha hotel. After lunch we will walk around the Phobjikha valley, it is a glacial valley and is the winter home of the black necked cranes. This valley is a designated conservation area and borders Black Mountain National Park. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Phobjikha.

 

8 Day 08: - Gangtey - Punakha

After the breakfast, we will drive to Punakha. The drive will take about 3hours. At Wangduephodrang we will visitWangduephodrang Dzong, was founded by the Lama Zhamdrung in 1638. Lunch will be served at Punakha. After lunch we will visit Punakha Dzong, it was the winter capital of Bhutan until 1955 when the capital was permanently shifted to Thimphu. It still served as the winter resident for the monk body. Then we will drive to the viewpoint of Khamsum Yule Namgyel chorten.

 

9 Day 09: - Punakha - Paro

After our early breakfast, we will drive to Paro via Dochula pass. At Lobesa we will visit Chhimi Lhakhang, which is located at a hilltop. We have to walk about 25minutes from the road point. This temple is also known as temple of fertility. After visiting this we will continue our journey to Paro. Lunch will be served at Dochula Cafeteria.The drive will take about 5hours. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Paro.

10 Day 10: - Paro sightseeing

After early breakfast, hike to the view point of Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery. We have to walk about 1hours & 30minutes up steep from the road end. The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. After enjoying the view & photographs, and refreshment at the viewpoint (Taktshang Cafeteria) we will walk back. After lunch we will visit National Museum of Bhutan and Kyichu Lhakhang. Dinner will be served in the farm house. Over night stay in the hotel, Paro.

 

11 Day 11: - Final Departure

Today we will drive to Paro International Airport to catch the flight to your next destination. Our representative will see you off from the airport.
