According to a popular legend, the city was created by a Boddhisattva(a mystical being) by draining a vast lake. Now a bustling urban hub,  Kathmandu is a blend of the old and the new. Traditional pagoda temples  and medieval palace squares share space with modern high-rises. This tour will take you on a journey of discovery. Explore ancient sites that are renowned World Heritage Sites, walk through  bustling bazaars and old localities and immerse yourself in the local culture. Visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sitesof  Changu Narayan, Swoyambhunath, Boudhanath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath  etc. are all included in your itinerary.

1 Day 01- Arrival in Kathmandu and explore the local market

Day 01- Arrival in Kathmandu and explore the local market

Once you arrive in Kathmandu, our airport representative will receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airportand drive you to your respective hotel. After checking in and a brief rest our guide will take you for a walk through Thamel (a popular tourist hub) and Ason, a bustling bazaar that was once an important stopover for traders traveling along the old Tibet trade route. Shop for curios and souvenirs.
(Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu. No meals included)

2 Day 02 - Guided sightseeing tour.

 

After an early breakfast, our guide will take you to the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites  of Swoyambhunath or Monkey TemplePashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa & Kopan Monastery.

Swoyambhunath ( Monkey Temple)
Situated on a hill, Swoyambhunath is both a Buddhist and a Hindu Temple. The origin of Kathmandu valley is closely linked to this temple. Also known as Monkey Temple, the sprawling tree-filled grounds of the temple is home to many monkeys.

Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu shrines in the world. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple lies 5 kms east of the city center. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred Linga, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva.

Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath Stupa is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. The white domed stupa stands on a giant mandala. Built during the 5th century, Boudhanath is an important centre of Tibetan Buddhism.  Legend has it that the bones of Kasyapa Buddha(one of Buddha’s incarnations) lies at the base of this stupa.

Kopan Monastery
Surrounded by a lush forest, Kopan Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated a few minutes drive from  Boudhanath. Its name comes from the name of the hill on which it was built. The monastery serves as a spiritual retreat as well as meditation and Buddhist learning centre for devout Buddhists. Many western visitors take  the annual month-long meditation courses offered by the  monastery. These courses generally combine traditional Lam Rim teachings with informal discussion, several periods of guided meditation, and a vegetarian diet.

3 Day 03 - Guided sightseeing tour. Farewell dinner and departure

 

We visit the following places today:

Kathmandu Durbar Square 
This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. An intriguing piece here is the 17th- century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar Square is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. There are also three museums inside the palace building.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur Durbar Square lies in Bhaktapur, one of the three medieval cities in Kathmandu Valley. The royal square, which was built by the Malla royals, houses some of the best examples of ancient Newari art and architecture.  The five-tiered pagoda temple  NyatapolaPalace of 55 Windows, Vatsala Temple, Bhairavnath Temple, Duttaraya Temple, Pujari Math, Golden Gate etc are all cultural treasures of this beautifully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Changu Narayan
The temple of Changu Narayan is one of the oldest temples in Nepal. Situated in the small village of Changu in Bhaktapur district, Changu Narayan was built by a  Lichhavi King during the 4th century. The temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, houses several ancient statues and stone inscriptions.

Evening, enjoy a complimentary farewell dinner at a local Nepali restaurant with cultural program. Later, our Airport Representative will drop you at the airport on time for your return flight.
