Description

Helambu Trek situated north-east of Kathmandu is the best short trek and enclose the diverse range of dazzling green valleys, misty rhododendron forests, and outlying horizons of silvery peaks and the rich contrast of Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist cultures. Helambu region remains relatively un-spoilt where trekkers can observe yolmo culture of high mountain villages, wonder at panoramas of lonely high mountains and look at enchanted as the farmers works in the fields with traditional hand made tools and pairs of white buffalo.
The trek is renowned for its picturesque grandeur and pleasing environment. One can reside in highland monastery villages and small settlements in unspoiled forests. The Sherpa vilage’s of Helambu focuses the charming enclave of farmers and yak herders. Helambu trek starts from Sundarijal and concludes at Melamchi Bazar or Vice Versa. The most accessible of all trekking regions, Helambu offers a low altitude, distinctly enjoyable walk. In Tamang and Sherpa villages meet friendly and hospitable people with strong family and cultural ties. This trek is ranked as an easier trek as the altitudea re lower, arraying among 800m and 3600m.

Outline Itinerary

1 DAY 1 Kathmandu (1350m)

We will pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel.       

2 DAY 2 Kathmandu – Melamchi Bazar – Kakani (1996m).

We drive from Kathmandu to Melamchi Bazaar (870m), it takes 5 hours by jeep and 6-7 hours by local bus. We start to trek from Melamchi Bazaar to   Kakani, it takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes. From Melamchi Bazaar to Kakani, you will be ascending all the way. Along the trek, you will pass through different villages to reach Kakani, where you can see many different ethnic groups such as Tamang, Sherpa, Chettri, Brahman and other ethnic group who live in Kakani village. From there, we can see some of the view of Gaurishankar and Lantang Range. Overnight in tea house.  

3 DAY 3 Kakani – Tarke Ghyang (2740m). 4:30 hrs

After breakfast, we will trek from Kakani to Tarkeghyang, this is a slightly gentle ascent route and takes about 4 hours 30 minutes. On the way, we will visit the Monastery and pass through Sermathang village which is a big Sherpa village. We will have the lunch here and continue trekking from Sermathang to Tarkeghyang. From there, we can see the Ganesh Himal Range and some peaks from the Tibet side. Overnight at lodge.

4 DAY 4 Tarke Ghyang – Melamchigaon (2530m). 3 hrs

On this day, we will trek from Tarkeghyang to Melamchigaon, this is a continual descending and ascending trail and takes about 3 hours. On the way, we can see the rice field and all kinds of vegetation plantation, and also the villages and the jungle. Overnight in tea house.

6 DAY 5 Melamchigaon - Tharepati (3510m). 5 hrs

We will trek from Melamchigaon to Tharepati, and it takes about 5 hours. The route is ascending all the way up and we will cross the jungle. We will see many different types of birds. After that, we will reach Tharepati where we can see the beautiful and magnificent view of Lantang, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Gaurishankar Range. Overnight in tea house.  

7 DAY 6 Tharepati – Phedi (4550m). 7 hrs

We will trek from Tharepati to Phedi and it takes about 7 hours. The whole trekking route is a zigzag trail. Overnight in tea house.

8 DAY 7 Phedi – Gosainkunda (4381m). 5:30 hrs

We will trek from Phedi to Gosainkunda and it takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes. From Phedi, we will walk 4 hours ascending to Lauribina Pass (4610m) and after that it is 45 minutes walking on the flat, and 45 minutes descending to Gosainkund. From Lauribina Pass, we can see the view of Lantang, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Gaurishankar Range and also the clear view of Langtang Lilung Peak (7227m) and some parts of Tibet. Overnight in tea house.
